Description
The Democratic Convention Service Award Ribbon is an authorized ribbon award for the Chicago Police Department. Ribbon includes metal frame and double pin clutch with butterfly clasps. Item Does not include a ribbon rack or any appurtenances (stars / oak leaves). Those items are sold separately.
Award Description: Granted to any Sworn or Civilian Department Member on active duty status during the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago from 26 August through 29 August 1996. This award was originally named the “Democratic National Convention Special Service Award” and was renamed effective March 1, 2011.
Presentation: This award was presented to Sworn Department Members in the form of a ribbon bar and certificate. Civilian Department Members were presented this award in the form of a 1996 Chicago Democratic National Convention lapel pin and certificate. The medallion was commissioned by then Chief of Patrol James A. Maurer. Produced with two different rocker bars, “DEMONSTRATION” (pictured) and “JOINT OP CMD,” the medallion was presented as a memento of the occasion to dignitaries and VIP’s.
